A SmartSlaps Community Safety Program
‍Pending Federal Grant Funding
Wildfire smoke increasingly affects communities across Nevada.
The SmartSlaps Nevada Wildfire Smoke Preparedness Initiative is a proposed statewide education program designed to help children and families understand wildfire smoke risks, emergency preparedness, and community safety.
Wildfire smoke events regularly affect Nevada communities due to both in-state wildfire activity and smoke transported from neighboring states.
Poor air quality during wildfire seasons can impact schools, outdoor activities, and public health.
Children are particularly vulnerable to smoke exposure.
Expanding wildfire preparedness education helps families better understand wildfire risks and take protective actions during smoke events.
• Firefighters distribute educational materials during outreach programs
• Children receive wildfire preparedness materials featuring Fernley the Fire Dog
• QR codes connect families to wildfire preparedness resources
• Communities gain stronger awareness of wildfire smoke safety
